Soccer Administrators From Hell
- Samuel Eto’o 15 match banned from the lions den.is this jungle justice or justice at the interest of the stronger party?
Former Indomitable Lions’ right back, Lauren Etame Mayer, of Equator Guinea origin once remarked “The problem with Cameroon football is the people around it and the people managing it”.
Since Iya Mohamed sat in the driver’s seat of the Federation, things have moved from bad to worse. No Cameroonian can vividly tell the public what enters the coffers of FECAFOOT or how it is managed. We hear about deals between FECAFOOT and sponsor of the National team in the likes of PUMA, orange Cameroon, MTN Cameroon, les Brasseries Du Cameroon, PMUC, CAMRAIL, among others, but nobody tells the public the terms of such contracts and how much they are worth, how much has been paid and how much is left. This information is left only for the “selected few” for obvious reasons.
A famous Brazilian footballer once said “soccer officials are from hell”; because of the evilness, greed and bad faith in which they manage the game.
Whenever there is a competition, soccer officials in Cameroon spend their time thinking of how much they will make at the end of the jamboree, not how to take the team forward. The animosity also stems from the fact that football bodies, FIFA and CAF, only recognize and deal with Federations in soccer management and not the ministry and so send money only to Federations.
Since members of the federation know that the national team is a state property, they fold their hands and wait for Government to bankroll the team, paving the way for officials to squander the money in the federation’s account. The federation officials are also pointing accusing fingers at the ministry that nobody really audits the minister on what he spends as tax payers` money in any competition that the lions are involved.
It is alleged that national team expenditures are at the discretion of minister. Some FECAFOOT officials are bitter with sports ministers who strike deals with under-performing expatriate coaches and make profits through commissions they get from them. It is, therefore, obvious that financial disagreements are the main cause of the conflict between the ministry and FECAFOOT.
The management of football in Cameroon is highly controversial and characterized by fraud and gross ineffectiveness. Effective management ought to be built around a vision or strategy.
It is high time the ministry and the Federation put their heads under one thinking basket and work together with collective responsibility rather than trying to win public favour. What soccer fans expect in Cameroon football today is an improvement on what was inherited and not a further deterioration. The time to start working is now. There is no time to waste for it is said that time and tide waits for no man.
- now what is to be done?take it or leave it,FECAFOOT is bad and has bad eggs that needs to be taken out.Maybe the Head will be better…Are we together?
